Description
Common use
Minipress is used in the treatment of hypertension either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs (diuretics or beta-adrenergic blocking agents) and also of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It contains prazosin hydrochloride.

Dosage and direction
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not miss doses as irregular intake increases the risk of high blood pressure. Do not stop taking this medication without permission of your doctor even if your symptoms improved. The usual recommended dose of Minipress is 1 mg two or three times a day. It maybe gradually increased up to 20 mg daily dose given in divided doses.

Precautions
Inform your doctor if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Minipress excretes with breast milk and is harmful to your baby. Low blood pressure is possible even when first doses of the medication are taken. You may feel faint, dizzy, or light-headed, particularly when you stand up from a lying position. Avoid driving or any hazardous tasks if you just started the course of treatment or change the dose. You may become dizzy, faint, or light-headed in hot weather, while exercising, or when standing for a long time.

Contraindications
Minipress cannot be used in patients with hypersensitivity to its components, quinazolines, prazosin, or other similar medicines such as doxazosin and terazosin.

Possible side effect
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, palpitations (pounding heartbeat), lack of energy, weakness.

Drug interaction
If Minipress is co-administered with diuretics or another antihypertensive agent, the dose of the former should be decreased. Concomitant use with PDE-5 inhibitor results in additive blood pressure lowering effects. Check with your doctor before to take Minipress how much it is safe for you to take it together with beta-blockers (propranolol), Dextroamphetamine, diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide), Ibuprofen, other high blood pressure medications, Verapamil. Alcohol effects are intensified by Minipress.

Missed dose
Never take a double dose of this medication. If it is almost time of the next dose just skip the missed portion and continue to take the medicine according to the schedule.

Overdose
If you feel profound drowsiness, depressed reflexes, and low blood pressure and suspect overdosing seek immediate medical attention.

Storage
Tablets of Minipress should be stored at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F).
